Frequently Asked Questions about artificial nails, manicures and pedicures.
Q. Do you use drills?
A. No. We hand file in all services. Drills are very quick but it is that quickness that causes problems. In no time a drill can cut through to the nail bed or heat up from friction and burn.
Q. Are we American/ do we speak English?
A. I know this may seem rude to put this on here but we really do get this call a lot. Yes, we are all American and we actually only know English.
Q. What about sanitation?
A. We use one time use products except for metal implements which we disinfect in a hospital grade disinfectant.
Q. What is the difference between Gel and Acrylic?
A. Gel is a honey like substance and generally clear, although it is available in colors. It is cured in a UV lamp. Gel is generally more flexible than acrylic and yellows less. It is also my experience that gel lifts less and lifting is damaging to the natural nail. Most Gels cannot be soaked off! Acrylic is a powder and liquid combined to make a paste that quickly hardens without a lamp. Acrylic is very strong and enduring. Acrylic also comes in many beautiful colors and can be soaked off in about 20 minutes with acetone (not polish remover).
Q. What are sculpted nails?
A. These are acrylic nails that have been formed without a tip using a form.
Q. What are Laser Nails?
A This is somewhat of a misnomer. There is no laser involved. It is only acrylic with a thin coat of gel or sealant that is then cured in a UV light. When gel is applied over acrylic you don’t have to buff the acrylic very much and it provides a very shiny finish. It does not create a stronger nail since acrylic is already strong and one thin coat of gel is not.
Q. What is powdered gel?
A. This is a gel base then acrylic is then sprinkled into the uncured gel. You cure and top with more gel. The powder is acrylic.
Q. Do you have those big pedicure massage chairs?
A. No, I know they are very popular but they are very, very hard to sanitize, unless they are pipeless, and most are not. It is not sufficient to wipe down the basin. The pipes inside the whirlpool part are still holding water from the last pedi. Still, I know those chairs are neat so we do have a massage therapist who offers chair side massage.
Q. What is a French Manicure?
A. This is a look not a service. It is white or natural white polish on the tips with a sheer tinted polish over it. We do not charge more for it. We do offer a White French Gel, which is an additional gel product, that is five dollars more.
